Key Club News

Colebrook Academy Key Club

October

“Caring—Our Way of Life”

Editor’s Note

Well, now that a new school year has been in session for over a month there is a lot to report about. Our club has been doing a lot of different activities and we have
been planning several events to do later. Along with our regular meetings and activities we were also invited to attend the Pittsburg Induction ceremony. I am very
pleased to report that our “Bring a Friend” night was a huge success. We introduced Key Club to many new students. This newsletter has articles on the different events we did in September and in early October.

Dixville Race Water Stations

Every year there is race from the Balsams Hotel in Dixville to Colebrook.  Our Key Club usually hands out water to the runners along the way. This year we worked at the mile 2 and mile 12 water booths. Therefore we split up into two different groups at the mile 2 and mile 12 water booths. The Key Clubbers at the mile 2 booth were there for about an hour and then went to the finish line. At the finish line they helped to hand out water and refreshments to the runners when they had finished the race.

Key Club Pledge

I pledge, on my honor,

to uphold the objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school, and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Key Club Trips

Each year different Key Clubs attend KPTI in Boston and Camp Sunshine in Maine. Our club is one of those clubs who attend.  Camp Sunshine is a camp in Maine for kids with cancer and their families. Six of us went to
Camp Sunshine on October 17.  KPTI (Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute) is a hospital in Boston.  Due to a shortage of rides only five people from our club could
attend on October 16.

Upcoming Events:

  • October 18-October 22
    Vegetable peeling at Methodist church

  • October 31-Kiwanis
Halloween Party Trick or Treat for UNICEF

  • November 13- “1,000
    Dinner Dinners” fundraiser

Appreciation Day for Ethan Allen Workers

Our Key Club and other Key Clubs in our area attended the Appreciation Day for Ethan Allen workers. The Ethan Allen factory is a furniture making factory in Beecher Falls, Vermont. We were asked to volunteer at this event. The people from our club who helped had to be there at 7 in the morning. They helped set up and get things ready for the workers and their families, and guest. There was also food to be served and handed out. After setting up, different Key Clubbers were asked to go along with the groups who were touring the factory. They made sure no one got lost. Four of us dressed up as Charlie Chaplin and did games with the children. All around it was a good experience and the Key Clubbers had fun while helping out in the area.

Major Emphasis Report:

Our major emphasis project this year is the Samantha Skunk project. It is a project that promotes non-smoking.
We will go into the schools
and tell kids the dangers of
smoking. We found out that the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) at our school wants to help us do the presentations, give us help with any expenses, and help in any way they can with this project.
