“Caring—Our Way of Life”

Editor’s Note

Well another school year has begun.  I hope you all had a nice summer.  I personally had a fun but hectic one.  Our club experienced some excitement with our big win at International convention.  Everyone involved in the planning and the actual events of Every 15 Minutes should be very pleased with themselves.  I applaud you all for a job well done.  I am very excited for the coming year.  Hopefully we can do some more great projects and still have a lot of fun while doing so.  I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome any potential new Key Club members.  Key Club is what you make of it.  We do a lot of work but we also have a lot of fun.

Bustling Summer Comes to a Close

The hustle and bustle of the summer has come to a close.  A new school year has begun.  Let me take an opportunity to look back on what a busy summer we had.  The first project of the summer was on June 17.  We picked up trash on south main street.  Now, this was an interesting project.  It came about when a lady asked us to pick up the trash that was across the street from her house.  Now, we went to this ladies house and had no idea what trash she was talking about.  Then we found that the trash was in the wooded area across from her house.  So, we tromped through the woods to pick up the trash.  Some of us got extremely wet because the trees were wet from rain the night before.  All in all though, we made it through and the project was fun.  It was nice to help an older lady in our community.  That same day after the trash pick up, we had a summer meeting and cookout at Lindy’s house.  It wasn’t really a project but it gave us all a chance to hang out and have some fun.

Next on the agenda for the summer was the annual pancake breakfast and spaghetti dinner.  This took place June 23 and 24.  Our club does these two events every summer for the bicyclists that come through the area.  This year we didn’t have as many bicyclists turn out as we have in the past but we still served quite a few hungry bicyclists.  The spaghetti dinner was one night and then the pancake breakfast was the next morning.  The people who worked the pancake breakfast should definitely be commended too because they had to get up really early in the morning.

Then Paul Tarkleson, Kyle Robidas, and Lindy went to International Convention in Atlanta and accepted our award on behalf of our club.  Lastly we most recently ran the dunking booth at the moose festival.  This is another event that we do every year to help out.  The kids always have a blast and it’s a pretty easy event.  As you can see the summer was chock full of stuff to do and hopefully the coming year will be as well.

Officer Training

Our annual officer training day was held this past Sunday, September 11.  It is a division wide event where the four Key Clubs; Canaan, Colebrook, Pittsburg, and Berlin; get together and have their officers trained to do their jobs.  The turn out this year was better than ever with officers from all four clubs attending.  The presidents and vice presidents were trained by alumnus and former president and Lt. Governor, Marc Nugent.  The secretaries were trained by the Colebrook advisor, Lindy Falconer.  The treasurers were trained by International Trustee, Brandon Mansur who is from Hudson, NH.  The editors were trained by New England District Editor, Mindy Marquis from Canaan, VT.  Lastly the public relations officer, chairman of the board, and Lt. Governor assistant were trained by Division 8 Lt. Governor, Kyle Robidas.

PCM Meeting

While everyone was there on September 11, we also had a PCM, or Presidential Council Meeting.  This is a meeting run by the Lt. Governor with the officers of the division clubs attending.  It is used to discuss division wide projects and ideas.  Many ideas were brought to the table.  We are planning a division wide “24-hour Key” which is where you get pledges and stay awake for 24 hours.  Pittsburg is also planning a softball tournament with the help of the division clubs to increase their membership and interest.  The International project, Kicking Aids out of Kenya, was also discussed.  It is a project that uses soccer to educate the girls of Kenya about Aids.
