Editor’s Note
Well, I
hope everyone enjoyed their February vacation. I sure appreciated the
break from all the hectic activities with school and Key Club. This
newsletter is reporting on the month of February and all the
activities we have done. The biggest news for this month was that the
board finally finished the Every 15 Minutes project by doing the
community night. I was very pleased with the turnout from the
community, Kiwanis, and the parents. I have written a full report on
this event and I hope everyone enjoys hearing about it.

Every 15 Minutes
Community Night
When
we did the Every 15 Minutes project in November we always knew that at
some point later in the year, the Key Club would put together an event
to show this project to the parents and community. The hard part was
trying to find a date for this night. With everything so hectic
around Christmas and then mid-terms it didn’t get done but the board
found a date that worked. On February 13 we put together a great
evening for anyone who attended.
The evening
started with a brief opening explaining what the projects was and the
events surrounding it. Then the first dvd was shown which was the
whole accident scene on the front lawn but we did not show the entire
video because it would have taken too long. The next video shown was
Bobby’s trip to jail. After these two videos the board wanted to
thank different people and groups that helped us with the project.
These people and groups included the ambulance crew, fire department,
jail, police department, Valerie Rella, Ms. McGuire, John Falconer,
Mr. Brooks, Mr. Mills, and the Country Club. After the thank you more
video footage was shown. The next dvd shown was the injured students
going to the hospital which was followed by the dvd of the trial scene
Friday morning. Following all of this Bobby Gooch got up and read the
speech he had written that he had read to the students at the trial.
As a whole the evening was a success and questions were answered
throughout the evening.
Reminder:
Anyone who is signed up to do pages for our scrapbook needs to work on
those pages so that the scrapbook can be done in time for convention.
Also anyone who is going to convention remember that you must have
your 30 hours, 15 meeting, and 2 Kiwanis meetings before convention in
order to attend.
Winter
Carnival
This year our Key
Club again helped at the Winter Carnival putting together the
cardboard sled race. For those who don’t know about it, the cardboard
sled race is when kids design colorful and creative sleds out of
cardboard boxes and race them down a hill. Prizes are awarded on
creativity, fastest sled, and so on. Next year we are hoping that the
sled race is organized better with better communication between those
involved but it went off okay this year. In other news at the winter
carnival representatives from our club won the Bocce tournament and
the canoe race.

Major Emphasis
Report:
We finally
have a date to do the Samantha Skunk project for the kids at school.
Samantha Skunk is for grades K-2 and we will also be doing some other
projects with the older students. At our last major emphasis meeting
we brainstormed different activities to do with the older grades and
got ideas like Smoking Sue, questionnaires, pre-test, post-test,
games, and the aging machine. The projects we do and how many we do
still depends on the grant. |
